Crestline/Lake Gregory is located in the San Bernardino Mountains at an elevation of 4900 feet. We are located in the center of pine forests and above the smog and heat of both the high and low deserts. Our community is populated by approximately 10,000 full time residents. The location, and easy access, make it an ideal mountain retreat for the entire Southland. It has been estimated that half of the state's population lives within 100 miles of our community. Our full-time population continues to grow each year, as we become a bedroom community for the surrounding industrial areas below and the people that want to escape the "big city" lifestyle. What are our attractions?

Access: Crestline/Lake Gregory is reached from Highway 18, a four lane all-weather road from San Bernardino, or Highway 138 from the high desert of the Cajon Pass. Roads are maintained by both the County and State with snow removal programs that ensure the roads are open throughout the year.

Climate: We have four seasons in the Crestline/Lake Gregory area. Although we have snow each year, our winter temperature averages between 40 and 50 degrees. Summer brings warmer weather and our summers average between 75 and 80 degrees. Rarely do we exceed 85 degrees, and it is highly unusual to find a home with air conditioning.

Schools: We are proud of our school system. Our children need not leave the mountain for their schooling until they graduate from high school. Our schools are part of the Rim of the World Unified School District. Our modern high school is located on the Rim of the World Highway with an awe inspiring view of the San Bernardino Valley on one side and the high desert on the other. A college program is offered in the high school in the evenings during the school year. Both California State University San Bernardino and San Bernardino Valley College are located at the base of the mountains.

Services: Banks, movies, bowling, gift shops, clothing stores, social clubs, doctors, dentists, building supplies, churches, and entertainment are readily available. We like to think that we have all the advantages of a small town with the big city facilities readily available only minutes away.

Restaurants: The mountain area is studded with a variety of dining facilities. They run the gamut from gourmet dining to hamburger stands near Lake Gregory.

Shopping: The community has one large supermarket and many other neighborhood stores that make a shopping trip down the mountain unnecessary. Large chain department stores, shopping malls and the State and County offices are located in San Bernardino, just 12 miles away.

Outdoor Recreation

Ball Fields: The Lake Gregory ball field is on San Moritz Drive, at the east end of Lake Gregory.

Lake Gregory: The lake 2.7 miles of shoreline and covers 120 acres. It is administered by the San Bernardino County Regional Parks Department as one of their Regional Parks. There are two public beaches, sailboats, rental rowboats, and a large water slide. No powerboats are allowed on the lake, but small sailboats may be launched for a nominal fee. The lake is well stocked with trout, and the fishing is excellent.

Water Sports and Fishing: The public beach has lifeguards and is open during the summer months for swimming, volleyball, and picnics for $3.00 per person. A full summer pass is available for $30.00. There is also a 300-foot, two-flume water slide at an additional charge. Private boats and gas motors are not permitted, but rowboats and aqua-cycles are available for rent at the Lake Gregory boathouse. Fishing can be done from rental boats or off the shore (any time of the year for shore fishing). A fishing license is required for those 16 years and older. For more information call (909) 338-2233.

Lake Silverwood: Lake Silverwood is less than 15 minutes from Lake Gregory on Highway 138. The lake offers launching facilities for private boats, camping, RV facilities, swimming, and picnic grounds. Lake Silverwood has facilities for power boats and the fishing is also excellent.

Winter Sports: We are 1/2 hour away from Snow Valley, one of the Southland's finest and largest ski areas. The lifts are normally open from Thanksgiving through Easter. Day and night skiing are offered throughout the ski season. The area makes it own snow if Mother Nature doesn't provide enough for ideal skiing.

Snow Skiing: Snow Valley Ski Area is located 5 miles east of Running Springs on Highway 18. Opening around Thanksgiving (or after the first good snowfall), Snow Valley's lifts and beautifully groomed runs make for a great day of skiing without much of a drive. Hiking and Walking: Walkers and joggers can enjoy the recreational trail around Lake Gregory. There are 8 fitness stations along the approximately 3-mile trail that encircles the lake. Note: All dogs must be on a leash.

National Forests: The area is surrounded by undeveloped National Forests. There is an abundance of hiking trails and off roading areas for the enthusiast. Bear, deer, coyotes, raccoons, and squirrels make up part of the wildlife of our area. Hawks are abundant and eagles are seen frequently. Migrating birds fill the sky over our forest community during the migratory season.

Horseback Riding: There are commercial stables nearby that offer boarding services and rentals. Horseback riding trails are found throughout the area and criss cross the National Forest lands.

Tennis: In the Lake Gregory Village area, there is one lighted court located on Forest Shade Road behind Goodwin's Market and is available until 10:00 p.m.

Indoor Recreation

Bowling: Rim Lanes on Lake Drive in the Lake Gregory Village area is open daily. Programs and events are available for seniors, adults, juniors, and pee-wees as well as league play. Rim Lanes also offers special programs and tours to local schools. For more information, call (909) 338-1787.
